What is Myofascial Release?

Myofascial Release techniques involve applying sustained pressure over targeted areas of fascia, which is the connective tissue surrounding all your muscles and bones.

If you’ve never experienced this type of work, you might be surprised at how different it is compared to other forms of massage. No lubricant is used, as the practitioner needs to have a good grip to avoid sliding over your skin. This modality is very slow, with pressure being applied in one direction for 3-5 minutes at a time. The therapist works with your body, not against it, to allow the tissues to soften on their own without the use of brute force.

This modality is excellent for clients who do not respond well to deep, forceful pressure. I incorporate MFR techniques into nearly all of my sessions, as they are great for relaxing the nervous system, which in turn allows your body to accept deeper pressure with less discomfort.
